Following on last month’s discussion, the February History Discussion Group will examine key moments in the second half of 20th century Argentinian history, a period of frequent turmoil, with multiple military coups and political clashes between Right and Left factions.
Our discussion will cover the rise (and fall) of Juan Perón; the Dirty War, a campaign waged from 1976 to 1983 by Argentina’s military dictatorship against suspected left-wing political opponents, during which time an estimated 10,000-30,000 citizens were “disappeared” and killed; the Falkland Islands War; and a brief look at the election of Argentina’s latest president, libertarian Javier Milei, a self-described “anarcho-capitalist.”
The History Discussion Group will meet on Tuesday, February 13th at 4:30 pm via Zoom. All are welcome to attend. Supplemental materials are below.
