The black walnut tree is having a tough time finding the love and respect it needs these days. Once revered by New York's Indigenous peoples, it is now generally seen as a nuisance tree or a tree only valued for its lumber potential. Black Squirrel Farms is changing that by developing and showcasing a range of distinctive, healthy and delicious black walnut-based food products which include nuts, oil and even mushrooms! Black walnut trees are a productive, community-owned resource with the potential to positively impact regional food security and food diversity concerns. Come learn why black walnuts are a unique, underappreciated American renewable resource and how you can get involved in changing their story and future.
