Tuesday Talks @ Two: Exploring Our Grandchildren's Possible Futures Through Climate
Climate predictions for 2050 or 2100 feel very far away, but they are closer than they appear. A child born in 2010 will turn 90 in 2100, and a child born today will turn 75. The year 2050 is as close to us as the year 2000. The nature of our future climate depends upon what we do now and in the intervening years. And, of course, substantial climate change impacts are being felt today.
What will the climate of Upstate New York look like if we get it right? What will it look like if we don't? Our energy and transportation systems are rapidly changing. Expect to see changes between 2025 and 2050 as important as those between 1925 and 1950. This exploration will include a look into research being done at Cornell University and elsewhere that has the potential to radically change how we heat our buildings and how we travel.
