Between May 25-June 4th, 1940, the British government carried out a daring and successful evacuation by sea—aided in part, by private citizen with small boats—that resulted in the rescue of more than 338,000 British and allied soldiers from the port of Dunkirk (Dunkerque) in German-occupied France.

Join the History Discussion Group on Tuesday, June 14th at 4:30pm as we look at the some of the factors that led to Hitler’s invasion of European countries, leading to World War II. We will also examine why the “Miracle of Dunkirk” was a boost for British morale and why this rescue mission was an essential reason Britain was able to defend its shores prior to the United States entry in the war.

Here are some suggested resources for the History Discussion Group in June. While reading articles, watching videos, or listening to podcasts is not required to attend the discussion, participants are encouraged to watch, read, or listen to at least of the suggested items below to ensure that we all have a bit of background coming into the discussion.
