Following on her presentation examining Charles I and II, this month Deb Schmidle will discuss the remaining monarchs of the Stuart dynasty: James II, William and Mary, and Queen Anne. This was a fascinating and often overlooked period of history that saw religious strife; challengers to the throne; a bloodless revolution resulting in the deposition of a king; two female monarchs; and a joint monarchy shared by husband and wife.
Join us as we explore rumors of a baby smuggled in a warming pan; a “friendly” Dutch invasion; and other 18thcentury court intrigues!

Bio
LLH member Deb Schmidle’s undergraduate and master’s level research focused on British history in the 16th and 17th centuries, an area in which she remains conversant. Deb has also developed and currently teaches courses on various aspects of London’s history for Lifelong in Ithaca.
