The History Discussion Group will meet via Zoom at 4:30pm on November 14th to examine and discuss the concept and history of nation states.
Many people assume that the nation state has always been the principal mode of political and territorial organization, yet this has only been true since the 19th century in Europe. Our discussion will focus on the meaning of the terms "nation" and "state" and the forces that gave rise to these new forms of social, economic, and political organization. We will focus on Germany as a case study.
Here is some background information for our discussion.
